An opportunity exists for a part-time board member position at the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (C-NLOPB). The Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (C-NLOPB) is an independent joint agency of the Government of Canada and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. The C-NLOPB is responsible for the regulation of exploration and development of oil and gas activities in the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador offshore area.Board members make independent decisions by interpreting and applying the provisions of the Atlantic Accord and the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Atlantic Accord Implementation Acts. These decisions also take into account public interest in the area of offshore petroleum regulation, while also adhering to the principles of worker safety; environmental protection and safety; effective management of land tenure; maximum hydrocarbon recovery and value; and Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador benefits.The Board consists of a chairperson and six part-time members, each appointed for a period of six years. On average, part-time members receive 45 to 70 days of compensation per year relating to Board meetings, committee work or special projects. All meetings/work of the Board are conducted in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.
