The mandate of the Hamilton Port Authority is to facilitate trade, promote regional economic activity, and support employment in the various economic sectors in which it is involved. Whether delivering goods to Canadians that they use, or delivering Canadian goods to the world, the Hamilton Port Authority ensures that goods are moved safely, while protecting the environment.The board of directors is comprised of representatives from the federal, provincial and municipal governments, as well as from user groups. It is broadly responsible for setting the strategic direction for, and overseeing the conduct and operations of, the port authority. The board of directors appoints the port authority’s chief executive officer, monitor’s management’s performance, ensures internal controls are in place to manage risks associated with the port authority’s business, and ensures protection of the port authority’s finances and accuracy of financial reporting.
