The Government of Canada’s property is exempt from local taxation under the Constitution Act, 1867. The federal government contributes to the cost of local government through payments in lieu of taxes. Pursuant to the Payments in Lieu of Taxes Act, Public Services and Procurement Canada (Public Works and Government Services Canada) makes payments to local taxation authorities on behalf of all federal departments and agencies. The Payments in Lieu of Taxes Dispute Advisory Panel has a mandate to provide advice to the Minister of Public Services and Procurement with respect to federal departmental property and to the heads of Crown corporations with respect to corporation property. This advice is provided to assist in resolving disputes between the federal Crown and Canadian taxing authorities concerning aspects of the payment calculation.Panel members are responsible for reviewing disputes between the federal government and local taxation authorities.
The Government of Canada will consider bilingual proficiency and diversity in assessing applicants.
