Farm Credit Canada (FCC) is Canada’s leading provider of financial and business services tailored to the agriculture and agri-food industry. The President and Chief Executive Officer is responsible for ensuring that the corporation has in place the strategies, approaches, programs and systems required to meet FCC’s legislative mandate. In addition, this person is responsible for running an efficient and effective corporation. The President and CEO reports to and is accountable to the Board of Directors, and to Parliament through the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food.

Education and Experience


  • A degree from a recognized university in a relevant field of study or an acceptable combination of education, job related training and/or experience;

  • A degree in finance, accounting, agriculture, business or a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) would be an asset;

  • Significant management experience at the senior level in a major public or private sector corporation, preferably in a competitive private sector business environment or in the financial services sector;

  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including the management of human and financial resources and risk management;

  • Experience in strategic management and implementing modern corporate governance principles and best practices;

  • Experience in dealing with senior levels of government; and

  • Experience in reporting to or serving on a Board of Directors for a public or private sector organization would be an asset.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


  • Knowledge of Farm Credit Canada’s mandate, legislative framework and activities;

  • Knowledge of sound business practices and principles, including human resources, financial and risk management, as well as good corporate governance;

  • Knowledge of corporate lending practices, venture capital investments and transaction structures;

  • Knowledge of Canadian government policies, practices and decision-making frameworks;

  • Knowledge of public policy related to the agriculture, agri-food and agri-business industry;

  • Knowledge of the key issues facing primary producers and those in the agri-food and the agri-business industry;

  • Demonstrated vision and leadership skills;

  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate, assess, and address business risks, particularly as they relate to complex financial transactions;

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with government and industry partners as well as stakeholders;

  • Ability to lead FCC in a manner that achieves the strategic objectives and delivers high quality service in a cost effective manner;

  • Ability to focus the energies and talents of FCC employees and motivate them to achieve corporate objectives;

  • Ability to act as a spokesperson in dealing with stakeholders, media, public institutions, government and other organizations; and

  • Superior communication skills, orally and in writing.

Language Requirements

Proficiency in both official languages would be preferred.
