Located in Calgary, Alberta, the Canadian Energy Regulator (Canada Energy Regulator) is an independent energy lifecycle regulator responsible for federally regulated pipelines and power lines, energy development and trade.The Board of Directors is responsible for the governance of the Canada Energy Regulator, including setting its strategic direction and providing strategic advice. The Board of Directors does not give directions or provide advice with respect to any particular decision, order or recommendation that would be made by the Commission or a Commissioner.The Canada Energy Regulator is committed to the ongoing process of reconciliation. Meaningful engagement with Indigenous communities makes for a better regulator by supporting better decisions, improved safety and environmental protection, and effective issue resolution. The Board of Directors operates in a manner that respects the Government of Canada’s commitments with respect to the rights of the Indigenous Peoples, including working to implement the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. The Board of Directors also works directly with the Canada Energy Regulator’s Indigenous Advisory Committee, to help it learn directly from Indigenous People in Canada.
