Member - AMENDMENT, Sustainable Jobs Partnership Council

The Sustainable Jobs Partnership Council is an advice-giving body created under the Canadian Sustainable Jobs Act. It is responsible for providing independent advice to the Minister and specified Ministers, through a process of social dialogue and based on their own expertise, on measures and policies related to Sustainable Jobs.

The Council consists of 13 members, including two Co-chairs who represent trade unions and industry, respectively.

Members conduct research, collect and share findings, contribute on the development of the engagement plan, undertake public engagement with various groups, and contribute to the development of conclusions and recommendations for policy.

Members provide support to the Co-chairs by bringing a broad viewpoint and expertise to the issues being discussed by the Council and rendering thoughtful advice so that these issues can be considered from the perspectives of all Canadians.

Education and Experience

• At least one of the following experience criteria OR one of the indicated knowledge criteria in the section below to be eligible as per the legislated factors for consideration:
  
  
  
  • key economic sectors involved in the shift to a net-zero economy;
  
  
  • representation of unionized workers;
  
  
  • economic and labour market analysis and forecasting;
  
  
  • governance of advisory boards or committees.
  
  


• Experience in engagement or Indigenous engagement would be considered an asset;


• Experience providing comprehensive advice and diverse perspectives on sustainable jobs would be considered an asset.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• At least one of the following knowledge criteria OR one of the indicated experience criteria in the section above to be eligible as per the legislated factors for consideration:
  
  
  
  • the types of issues facing workers in the shift to a net-zero economy, including issues related to industrial change and technological transformation;
  
  
  • the Indigenous knowledge of Indigenous Peoples;
  
  
  • climate change and climate policy at the regional, national and international levels;
  
  
  • skills development, training and retraining initiatives at the regional and national levels.
  
  


• Ability to manage and provide direction to the work of the Council; and


• Ability to provide coaching and mentorship to other Council members to fulfill their responsibilities, and champion the values and principles of sustainable jobs.

Eligibility Factors and Conditions of Employment

• Appointees must comply with the Ethical and Political Activity Guidelines for Public Office Holders throughout their appointment as a term and condition of employment. The guidelines are available on the Governor in Council Appointments website, under Forms and reference material.


• All appointees will be subject to the Conflict of Interest Act. Public office holders appointed on a full-time basis must also submit to the Office of the Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner, within 60 days of appointment, a confidential report in which they disclose all of their assets, liabilities and outside activities. • Appointees must uphold the highest standards of probity and are expected to demonstrate behaviors in the workplace that afford respect, equality and dignity, to everyone they interact with at work at all times. The Values and Ethics Code for the Public Sector outlines the values and expected behaviors for public servants, including valuing diversity and creating workplaces free from harassment and discrimination. Governor in Council appointees are expected to uphold and respect these values and principles in a positive and active manner.


• Appointees must have knowledge, expertise or experience in one or more of the following:

• Appointees must be able to dedicate approximately 3 to 4 days per month to the duties of the position, with up to an additional 7 days per month on occasion for specific operational reasons (for example, related to Partnership Council engagement trips or the preparation of input to the annual report).


• Appointees must be willing and able to travel across Canada.
